Working Groups

EWPM Working Groups form the core of the organisation’s technical and policy activities. Members of the Working Groups develop EWPM positions and prepare recommendations for approval by the membership.

The Working Groups focus on key technical, regulatory and communication areas relevant to the wood preservation industry.

Working Group – Efficacy

This group develops EWPM policy on procedures for assessing the efficacy of active substances and the performance of preservative formulations arising from European Standards (CEN) committees and from European Commission initiatives affecting biocidal and construction products.

Working Group – Risk Assessment

This group develops EWPM policy on procedures for assessing the safety and environmental impact of active substances and preservative formulations within the European regulatory framework for biocidal products.

Working Group – Communication

This group develops EWPM policy on communication, cooperation and information exchange with members, European industry organisations, national bodies, the European Commission and the public.

Working Group – Termites

This group develops EWPM policy on procedures for assessing the safety and environmental impact of products and methods, including termite barriers, used in the prevention and treatment of termite infestations in buildings.

The group also prepares guidance for members regarding regulatory measures implemented by the European Commission and Member States concerning active substances, formulations and articles used for termite control and prevention.

Working Group – Process Chemicals

This group develops EWPM policy on procedures for assessing the safety and environmental impact of process chemicals added to preservative solutions, typically at treatment facilities.

Process chemicals do not contribute directly to wood protection against biological agents such as fungi and insects, but are used to prevent or mitigate unwanted biological or physical effects, for example through corrosion inhibition or foam control.

The group prepares advice for members regarding regulatory measures affecting process chemicals implemented by the European Commission and Member States.
