About EWPM

The European Wood Preservative Manufacturers Group (EWPM) was formed in 1977 to provide a common platform for European wood preservative manufacturers to respond to developments in the standardisation and regulation of their products. The organisation operates under its Statutes, most recently amended in 2019.

The aim of EWPM is to promote, with integrity, the correct use of wood preservatives throughout their production, transportation, utilisation and disposal. This objective is pursued by, among other actions:

  • taking appropriate measures, as decided by the voting members, within applicable legal frameworks;

  • acting on behalf of members to promote agreed positions in technical, scientific, regulatory, health, safety and environmental protection matters affecting the industry, directly or indirectly, particularly within Europe.

EWPM engages directly with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, industry associations and consultants to contribute to the development of European legislation, guidance and industry best practice relevant to the wood preservation sector.

EWPM is an Accredited Stakeholder Organisation with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and holds observer status in several European standardisation committees, including CEN/TC 38, TC 112, TC 124, TC 175 and TC 351. EWPM also works closely with the European Institute for Wood Preservation (WEI).
